Ajax were knocked out of the Champions League at the third qualifying phase on Tuesday night after a 5-4 aggregate defeat by Rapid Vienna.

The Dutch giants, who finished second in the Eredivisie last year, had drawn 2-2 in the first leg in Austria, and were behind early on thanks to Robert Beric's goal.

Louis Schaub made it 2-0 to the visitors, before Arkadiusz Milik and Nemanja Gudelj brought Frank de Boer's side back on level terms on the night and in the tie with 15 minutes remaining.

But two minutes later Schaub grabbed his second for Vienna, putting them through to the final qualifying play-off round.

Elsewhere, Monaco progressed thanks to a 7-1 aggregate victory over Young Boys, winning 4-0 on the night, while 10-man APOEL Nicosia overcame FC Midtjylland on away goals despite a 1-0 defeat on Tuesday night.
