The Republic of Ireland will face Euro 2016 quarter-finalists Iceland in a friendly match in Dublin in March.

The Football Association of Ireland has announced that Heimir Hallgrimsson's men will visit the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday March 24, four days after Wales come to Dublin in a World Cup qualifier.

Iceland, who are ranked 21st in the world - 10 places higher than Martin O'Neill's men - knocked England out of this summer's finals on their way to the last eight.

Both teams have taken seven points from their opening three games in the new campaign.
