Ryan Mason has been called into the England squad for Tuesday night's friendly against France at Wembley.

Roy Hodgson's squad has been beset by withdrawals and Mason has joined the group after Fabian Delph of Manchester City pulled up in training on Monday.

Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard was previously drafted into the squad on Sunday due to the absence of Michael Carrick and Jamie Vardy.

Mason, 24, made his England debut when he came off the bench during a 1-1 friendly draw with Italy in Turin in March.

Hodgson said: "Today we lost Fabian Delph, alongside Vardy and Carrick - three of the players who are more experienced - so we are in a difficult situation in terms of not having a lot of players to choose from and we are playing against a very good team.

"With all these players missing, who we believe come March will be back in the fold and adding to the competition for a place in the 23, I didn't want to turn to an individual for one game who would not have a chance again in the future.

"That explains the inclusion of Jesse Lingard and when we lost Delph we turned to Ryan Mason, because we're pursuing a policy that we set out some time ago and we are trying to stay faithful to it."

Mason has not started in the Premier League since mid-September after picking up an injury against Sunderland, but has now returned to fitness and has come off the bench in the last three Premier League games for Tottenham, as well as starting against Anderlecht in the Europa League.

Tottenham boast a strong contingent of England squad members and Mason joins his club team-mates Kyle Walker, Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Harry Kane.
