England 2-0 France: Terry Butcher's player ratings

France's Yohan Cabaye (left) and England's Dele Alli battle for the ball during the international friendly match at Wembley Stadium, London.

England won an emotional friendly against France on Tuesday evening thanks to goals from Dele Alli and Wayne Rooney.

The game was played at Wembley just four days after the terrorist attacks in Paris and players and fans from both sides showed their support for those affected.

Here, former England captain Terry Butcher gives his verdict on how England's players fared…

Hart - 7/10

He didn't have a lot to do in the first half but was his usual reliant self when called upon.

Clyne - 8

I thought he was excellent at right-back. He defended really well, covered round his centre-half very impressively and broke forward too. Good use of the ball and overall an excellent performance.

Cahill - 7.5

Worked really well with Stones. He was impressive and made a great block on Anthony Martial in the second half. One of his best England games.

Stones - 7.5

He's got to know when he comes out of defence whether to give it, pass it or continue his run, but he looks an England certainty for the future, a definite starter at centre-half.

Gibbs - 7

He did alright going forward, not as impressive as Clyne, but steady. Didn't quite get as close to Hatem Ben Arfa as he should have done in the first half but linked up well on the left.

Goals from Dele Alli and Wayne Rooney gave England a 2-0 win over France at Wembley.

Dier - 8

Very impressive performance on his first start and definitely one for the future. He was good in front of the back four, worked hard, broke things up, kept it simple and passed it well.

Alli - 9

My man of the match. The tackle on Morgan Schneiderlin was worth the admission money alone and the finish for the goal was brilliant. A class game from the youngster and he has given Roy Hodgson a lot of questions in terms of selection because he has done really well. I hope he goes to the Euros, he is exciting and a player for the future.

Barkley - 7.5

Much better performance than on Friday night. He worked hard defensively in a much deeper position and looked much more comfortable. I thought it was a good performance.

Sterling - 7

Really great ball for the goal from Rooney and worked very hard throughout, even though sometimes he gave the ball away too easily. He is learning and improving and has good pace.

Rooney - 7.5

He was effective and linked up well with those around him. Played a good ball for the first goal and then scored the second. He has to be in the team because he is our talisman and lead player. Any other country is wary of him and if he is not in the team it diminishes our threat.

Kane - 7.5

He led the line well in his second game in a few days. He is strong, big and a good lynchpin for the side. He tackles well and even though he is not the quickest he is sharp when it comes to letting people in and holding the ball up.

Subs

Jack Butland was excellent when he came on. He made a really good save from Martial and looked strong and composed. It's really good that he has come through for club and country. Adam Lallana, Jonjo Shelvey, Phil Jones and Ryan Bertrand didn't really have time to influence the game after coming on.
