Jill Scott scored with just six minutes left to salvage a 1-1 draw for England Women from their Euro 2017 qualifier against Belgium.

The hosts had fallen behind during the first-half in Rotherham after an error by goalkeeper Karen Bardsley, Scott's Manchester City team-mate.

But Scott popped up to save the day in the closing stages and Mark Sampson's team are now second in Group G, a point behind Belgium with a game in hand.

Belgium went in front in the 18th-minute when Bardsley came out to deal with a long ball but mis-kicked on the edge of her area, allowing Janice Cayman to slide the ball into an empty net.

Bardlsey partially redeemed herself by saving at the feet of Cayman as Belgium looked for a second goal but the night was not going according to plan for the hosts.

The introduction of second-half substitutes Karen Carney, Eni Aluko and Gemma Davison improved England and they began to press hard for a leveller.

Fara Williams fired wide after latching onto a fine Carney pass and was grateful to see the offside flag had gone up, before Steph Houghton also put a shot just wide of the target.

And England looked set for a frustrating evening until Alex Scott swung over a cross from the right, the ball bounced around as Carney challenged for it in the air, and Jill Scott produced a opportunistic finish, prodding the ball into the net from close range.

The hosts piled on the pressure late on and Belgium goalkeeper Justien Odeurs was grateful to grab a Steph Houghton free-kick at the second attempt.

But England could not get the breakthrough, although they will be grateful to have avoided a first European Championship qualifying defeat for almost 16 years.

Seven points from three games is two fewer than England wanted but they will get a chance to improve their haul when they face Bosnia-Herzegovina next Tuesday.

Jane Ross scored a first-half double as Group A leaders Scotland maintained their 100 per cent record in Women's Euro 2017 qualifying with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Slovenia at St Mirren Park.

Kim Little was also on target from the penalty spot as the hosts made it five wins out of five.

But Northern Ireland Women's European Championship qualifier against Czech Republic was postponed on Friday night following a serious accident on the M1.

The Irish Football Association said the accident meant the motorway was closed, making travel to Mourneview Park impossible for the team and supporters travelling from Belfast.
