Adam Lallana's first goal for England was perfectly timed as he made sure the Three Lions picked up all three points late on against Slovakia

It was a glorious evening for Adam Lallana as he scored England's winner against Slovakia, but the same cannot be said for Martin Skrtel...

The former Liverpool team-mates had differing fortunes as the Three Lions won their opening fixture 1-0 in Group F of the European World Cup Qualifiers.

Lallana scored his first senior England goal after a strong performance, hitting the post in the second half but finding the net in the 95th minute to seal a dramatic first win under Sam Allardyce.

England could have opened the scoring not long before as Theo Walcott's strike was ruled offside after the ball took a slight nick off Daniel Sturridge on its way to the Arsenal man, seeing the linesman raise his flag despite protests by the visiting players.

Martin Skrtel picked up his second yellow card for a stamp on Harry Kane

But Slovakia captain Skrtel had a far worse evening, picking up his first yellow card after a elbow on England striker Harry Kane in the first half before a stamp on the Tottenham man's ankle in the second saw him given his marching orders.

There had been a few close calls for the Fenerbahce defender before his sending off, but his luck ran out as the home side were reduced to 10 men with over half an hour to play.
