England captain Wayne Rooney and defender Ryan Bertrand missed training on Monday with "minor issues" ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Spain at Wembley.

Rooney played the full 90 minutes in England's 3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Scotland at Wembley on Friday, setting up Gary Cahill for the Three Lions' third goal.

Bertrand, who started last month's 2-0 win over Malta, was an unused substitute against Gordon Strachan's side and both are now doubts for the game with Spain.

In their absence, Tottenham youngster Dylan Duncan will train with the senior side for the first time.

Sky Sports News HQ chief football reporter Nick Collins said: "Wayne Rooney, the captain, and Ryan Bertrand, the left-back, are not training and we are told that is because of minor issues.

"Now, we don't know whether that will rule them out of tomorrow night's game. I suspect it will not necessarily if they're only minor issues.

"Having said that, it's a key session, this one, if you want to play on the Tuesday, to miss Monday's session is usually quite significant.

"Those two are not here and, of course, Harry Kane has been released back to his club (Tottenham) but we've got a youngster called Dylan Duncan. He's 17, he's a young Spurs midfielder and he's going to take part in this training session to help make up the numbers if you like.

"England are still fairly healthy in terms of numbers, but the squad was originally 25 for that reason, so England have had to make a couple of alterations. Gareth Southgate will feel he still has plenty of options ahead of the meeting against Spain."
