Goals from Mason Mount and Ryan Sessegnon secured England a 2-0 win against Bulgaria and a winning start at the UEFA U19 European Championship in Georgia.

Chelsea youngster Mount gave Keith Downing's side an early lead (1) before Sessegnon, who recently signed a new deal at Fulham, doubled the advantage in the 49th minute.

The victory gives England the perfect start to their Group B campaign ahead of matches against the Netherlands and Germany.

England flew out of the traps in Tbilisi, scoring after just 39 seconds when Dujon Sterling's cross picked out Mount, who picked out the far corner with a low drive.

Just five minutes later Mount was involved again but this time it was in defence, clearing Petko Hristov's header off the line.

Bulgaria threatened again in the 33rd minute with Bournemouth's Aaron Ramsdale making an outstanding save to tip another Hristov header over the crossbar.

However, England started the second half like they did the first after a brilliant move between Ben Brereton and Sessegnon released the Fulham youngster in on goal, and he made no mistake beating Dimitar Sheytanov.

In sweltering conditions in Georgia, Bulgaria tried to find a way back into the game but it was England who held on for a valuable three points.

Up next in Group B for Downing's men are the Netherlands on Thursday, July 6 with kick-off at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium at 2.30pm BST.
