England reached the final of the European U19 Championship after a dramatic 1-0 victory over Czech Republic on Wednesday.

Substitute Lukas Nmecha snatched a stoppage-time winner in Georgia to book a place in Saturday's final against Portugal.

Tottenham youngster Marcus Edwards played a crucial role in the goal, spinning his marker and delivering the cross for Nmecha to back-heel home.

It continues a successful summer for England's youth teams after the U20s won the World Cup in South Korea and the Toulon Tournament in France.

Aidy Boothroyd's U21 squad reached the semi-finals of the European Championship at their age level before a penalty shootout defeat to Germany, while England U17s lost their final to Spain via spot-kicks.

The U19s, led by head coach Keith Downing, created few chances in a tight first-half against the Czechs.

England captain Jay Dasilva went closest to finding a breakthrough but his low strike from the left of the penalty box came back off the post, leaving the Young Lions frustrated at the break.

And with extra time looming, two of Downing's second-half substitutes combined to put England into the final.

Spurs winger Edwards wriggled free on the right in the 93rd minute and cut back for Manchester City forward Nmecha, who skilfully flicked in from five yards.

The victory means the Young Lions have gone one better than last year's team, which reached the semi-final of the competition only to lose to Italy.

It is the third time England have reached a U19 Euros final but they are yet to lift the trophy after defeats to France in 2005 and Ukraine in 2009.
