Lee Carsley handed assistant role with England U21 team

Lee Carsley insists he does not want the Brentford job despite four straight wins

England U21s have appointed former Everton midfielder Lee Carsley as assistant to Aidy Boothroyd.

Carsley, who has been named the specialist national coach to the U21 team, will carry out the role on a part-time basis, while he continues his role as head professional development coach at Birmingham City,

The 43-year-old joined Birmingham earlier in June, after leaving Man City's youth set up.

The England U21 side will play the Netherlands and Latvia over the next seven days as they attempt to qualify for the UEFA U21 Championship.
