We asked you to pick your ideal England starting XI for their World Cup opener - and here are the results.

After an unbeaten World Cup qualifying campaign, Gareth Southgate can start preparing for Russia.

Friendlies at home to Germany and Brazil await, while there is more than seven months left in the Premier League for players to impress the England head coach.

Southgate has a tough task to work out his ideal formation and XI ahead of Russia, but here's a look at how you voted if everyone is fit and available.

Goalkeeper

Jack Butland gets the nod ahead of Joe Hart. The Stoke shotstopper started in England's 1-0 win over Lithuania on Sunday, keeping a clean sheet in the process. The No 1 jersey will be hotly contested as the season progresses, can Butland work his way into Southgate's plans ahead of Hart?

Defenders

Kyle Walker joins former team-mate Danny Rose as your wing-backs, while the three centre-backs you've chosen are Gary Cahill, John Stones and Phil Jones. With Michael Keane, Harry Maguire and Chris Smalling also vying for a spot in the centre of defence, it's going to be a tough task for Southgate to pick his favoured three, having admitted a three-man defence is a "better option" as they build towards the World Cup.

Midfielders

Adam Lallana is yet to play this season due to a thigh injury, but he makes your XI alongside Liverpool team-mate Jordan Henderson and Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli. The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Raheem Sterling, Eric Dier, Jesse Lingard, Harry Winks, Jack Wilshere and many more will be hoping to impress Southgate in the coming months.

Forwards

Unsurprisingly, Harry Kane has been chosen up front, and you have selected Marcus Rashford to partner the Tottenham striker. The duo started alongside each other against Lithuania, while Alli also played a more advanced role with Harry Winks and Henderson further back.
