Scotland line up March friendly against Denmark at Hampden Park

Scotland have added a second friendly date to their March plans after confirming Gordon Strachan's side are to host Denmark.

The Czech Republic's Football Association revealed on Wednesday it would welcome the Dark Blues to Prague on Thursday, March 24 as part of their team's preparations for next summer's European Championships.

Now the Scottish FA has announced it will follow that trip by taking on the Danes five days later, with the match expected to be played at Hampden.

The double header will see Scotland return to action for the first time since the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign ended in failure.

Strachan is now setting his sights on the 2018 World Cup in Russia and will use the fixtures to assess how his squad is shaping up ahead of the qualifying campaign, which starts in September.

And the national team boss has revealed he will select a different squad for each match to maximise his players' game time.

He said: "It's important that we use these two matches effectively and give opportunities to those who may not have had as many as they would have liked in the previous campaign. It also allows us the flexibility to take a look at some players who are emerging.

"We would all rather be using these matches to prepare for the Euros this summer but we need to get over that disappointment collectively - coaches, players and supporters - and the best way to do that is to get together again and start planning for the World Cup qualifiers."

Scotland last faced the Danes in 2011, with Robert Snodgrass netting the winner in a 2-1 friendly clash at Hampden.

Strachan also hopes to line up another set of friendly fixtures for May and June, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.

The Scots take on England, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania and Malta in their World Cup qualifying group.
