Aston Villa's Neil Taylor has contacted Seamus Coleman to send good wishes and express his sympathy after his tackle left the Everton defender facing up to a year out of the game.

Coleman's shin was fractured by Wales defender Taylor's tackle during the Republic of Ireland's goalless draw in their World Cup qualifier on Friday at the Aviva Stadium.

"Neil has expressed his sympathy through the normal channels," said Taylor's agent Jamie Moralee.

Ashley Williams, also a client of Moralee's, has acted as a conduit between the two players as he knows Taylor from Wales and is close to Coleman at Everton.

The challenge left Coleman needing oxygen as he left the stadium on a stretcher before undergoing surgery. He was due to be discharged from hospital on Wednesday.
