Fabregas wants to play

Cesc Fabregas insists his youth should not be a barrier to him playing against France.

Cesc Fabregas insists his youth should not be a barrier to him playing in Spain's second round clash with France.

The teenage midfielder has started just one game so far at the World Cup, when he figured in Spain's much-changed side for the 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia.

Prior to that Group H finale, Fabregas had been used as a substitute as Spain thumped Ukraine 4-0 and came from behind to beat Tunisia 3-1.

Spain coach Luis Aragones could revert back to the side which started against Tunisia when they meet fellow European heavyweights France on Tuesday.

Such a move would push Fabregas back on the bench, but the 19-year-old is adamant he is old enough to be considered for a starting role in Hannover.

"I want to be in the first team in every game," said Fabregas.

"We have France and then maybe Brazil, so it's difficult, but I feel ready to play.

"I'm going to keep working and now it's the manager's decision."

Earlier in the week, Fabregas was on the receiving end of some glowing praise from Diego Maradona and the Arsenal midfielder was delighted with the Argentine legend's comments.

He added: "For me, he's the best ever and the person who can inspire me.

"I was lucky to be interviewed by him the other day. When a person like him says he likes the way I'm playing, that's very good.

"But he won't be my friend if we play Argentina!"
