Jeremy Mathieu's participation at Euro 2016 is in doubt after undergoing knee surgery that could rule him out for two months.
The Barcelona defender went under the knife on Thursday after suffering a torn meniscus during France's friendly win over Russia on Tuesday.
A Barcelona statement read: "Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu has successfully undergone an operation on the meniscus injury in the right knee this Thursday by doctors Ramon Cugat and Ricard Pruna.
"The player will approximately be out for between six and eight weeks."
The injury means Mathieu could be absent for the remainder of the season as Barcelona chase a second successive treble of Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey titles.
Barca's final league match is set for the weekend of May 14/15, with their Copa del Rey final against Sevilla the following weekend. The Champions League final is scheduled for May 28.
Mathieu is also facing a fight to be fit for Euro 2016 in his homeland this summer, with the opening match of the tournament taking place on June 10.
