Wins for Man Utd and Man City? Charlie Nicholas' Champions League predictions

Graphic

Charlie Nicholas gives his Champions League predictions - and is tipping a more positive round for Premier League clubs.

The Soccer Saturday expert tipped Arsenal to rise to the occasion against Bayern Munich and saw them duly deliver, while he was also spot-on with his prediction that Chelsea would be forced to settle for a draw in Kiev.

Focus now turns to the Manchester clubs - third in their respective groups with three points apiece to their names - so is Charlie tipping them to make it a satisfying week for Premier League sides in Europe?

CSKA Moscow v Manchester United

I have to say United surprised me at Goodison Park and that is a really stunning result for them to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat at the Emirates, producing such an such an impressive win.

It was important for Wayne Rooney to get a goal and, while Anthony Martial is beginning to settle down a bit and Memphis Depay isn't really capturing my imagination in terms of fitting into the system, I do quite like it when Ander Herrera and Morgan Schneiderlin play together.

I do think United will get something but this is a difficult game and I think they'd be happy to get a draw.

Manchester City v Sevilla

I have to be honest, I think City will find this a struggle. I've done Man City for their last two games and Sergio Aguero scored five and Raheem Sterling should've scored five, but there's absolutely no doubt that without Aguero and David Silva that they're not the same.

Bournemouth gifted them goal after goal after goal on Saturday and there's no way it's going to be like that on Wednesday. Sevilla are like a bag of Revels, you don't know what you're going to get, but they can sit in and frustrate and hit you on the counter-attack and I tell you what, they are good at set-pieces, they really attack the ball well that's a danger for Man City, who have to score first.

I see Yaya Toure is complaining he's not getting credit for his performances and I'd like to see him played closer to Wilfried Bony, with Sterling on the left and Kevin De Bruyne on the right.

Charlie predicts: 2-1 - Toure to score first (30/1 with Sky Bet

Arsenal v Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich knocked Arsenal out of the Champions League in 2013 and 2014

I think Arsenal are a great value bet at 11/4, even if you backed them at +1 in the handicap. They've got good momentum, they're playing well, Alexis Sanchez is in form, Mesut Ozil is in form, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud getting goals is another plus.

Bayern have won every game in the Bundesliga, averaging three goals a game, we know that, but anyone that watches them, which I do quite a bit, will know that you can get at them. They've chopped and changed quite a bit at the back and they had David Alaba, who is a left-back, playing at centre-back at the weekend and Manuel Neuer makes their defence look better than they are.

Bayern will want to play an open game of football and look to Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller to pick them off, but that will suit Arsenal with the way they are playing right now, especially with Theo Walcott's pace and movement.

It's a must-win situation for Arsenal, I don't think a draw is good enough, but I do believe they can get the three points.

Charlie predicts: 2-1 - Walcott to score first (55/1 with Sky Bet)

Result: Arsenal 2-0 Bayern Munich

Dynamo Kiev v Chelsea

LONDON, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 17: Chelsea players celebrate their team's first goal by Diego Costa (obscured)
Image: Chelsea returned to winning ways win a 2-0 win at the weekend

I must say I'm not confident at all in Chelsea, who got a lucky break at the weekend. They were really struggling against Villa and it was only mistakes that handed them the win on a plate and they were not exciting at all.

There are definite issues within the group and the leaving out of Eden Hazard was a big call, something that Jose Mourinho does like to do but makes for an even more unhappy camp.

I think this is another struggle for Chelsea and I think they'll be delighted to get a draw, which keeps them in a good position in the group. I'm going for them to score first and Diego Costa to score again as he is one player that is up for the fight.

Charlie predicts: 1-1 - Costa to score first (18/1 with Sky Bet)

Result: Dynamo Kiev 0-0 Chelsea
