Mauricio Pochettino was pleased for Harry Kane to end his 13-hour goal drought in Tottenham's 4-1 victory against Manchester City

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has urged his players to stay grounded after they thrashed Manchester City 4-1 at White Hart Lane.

Spurs came from behind to seal a third successive Premier League win thanks to goals from Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Harry Kane and Erik Lamela.

Pochettino stressed after the game that he has a young squad that is still learning, and to get carried away with such a monumental victory would be a mistake.

He said: "We are a young team, younger than City, and the potential for us is massive.

"But we need to keep our feet on the grass. After a big win like this it is tough to do that, but we need to keep calm because we are very young. It is easy sometimes for us to get confused.

"It was a great victory for us and a great result. I am very happy for the players and the supporters, especially after losing to Arsenal on Wednesday.

"In the first half it was very difficult to find a way to play against them, but at half-time we corrected a few things and fixed some problems, and in the second half it was easier.

"Maybe it was one of our best performances. After the 90 minutes we deserved the victory, but it is important for them to believe in the way that we play.

"The most important thing is that we competed. I said in the press conference on Friday that we needed to compete with them because we are young, and we did that today."

Harry Kane ended a 13-hour wait for a goal this season and Pochettino admitted it was a relief for everyone at the cub.

"It was very important for him and for us as a team," the Argentine said.

"It will take off the pressure for him, and now I can stop being asked about it in every press conference."
