Leyton Orient's winless sequence extended to four as they had to scramble for a point in a dramatic finish at Northampton, allowing in-form Portsmouth - 2-1 winners at Bristol Rovers - to move top of the Sky Bet League Two standings.
Jayden Stockley's second goal of the season secured Pompey's victory after Gareth Evans had headed Pompey in front from Kyle Bennett's cross after 29 minutes. Jermaine Easter had levelled for Rovers early in the second half as his shot hit the crossbar and went in off debutant goalkeeper Aaron McCarey.
Stockley, who only started after Adam McGurk was injured in the warm-up, stabbed home the winner for Pompey 20 minutes from time.
Two goals in stoppage time saw Leyton Orient, who had started the day at the top, snatch a point from a 1-1 draw at Northampton. Dominic Calvert-Lewin had put the Cobblers in front in the third minute of time added on, only for Dean Cox to equalise from a free-kick four minutes later.
Wycombe moved into the automatic promotion places with a 2-0 win at Exeter. The Chairboys took the lead through Joe Jacobson's superb free-kick and Garry Thompson made it two as he kept his cool one-on-one.
At the bottom of the table, Newport claimed a first win of the season as Tyler Blackwood, signed this week on loan from QPR, headed the only goal to see off Carlisle at Brunton Park.
Michael Gash scored the quickest goal of the day in League Two as he fired Barnet in front in the first minute against Dagenham and Andy Yiadom doubled their lead with a superb curling effort. Gash scored his second of the day, with substitute Jodi Jones pulling a goal back for Daggers from a free-kick.
Accrington made the most of Luke Rooney's dismissal to claim a 3-0 win at Crawley, with Josh Windass, Matt Crooks and Billy Kee scoring.
Brad Walker came off the bench to earn Hartlepool a first win in six league matches as they beat Yeovil 2-1 at Huish Park. Scott Fenwick put Pools in front with a close-range header from Jake Carroll's free-kick but former Hartlepool loanee Ryan Bird equalised shortly afterwards. Walker slammed in the winner from a mishit shot from Kudus Oyenuga.
Harrison Dunk scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time to snatch a 1-0 win for Cambridge against Stevenage, while Izale McLeod's third goal in five matches was enough for Notts County to see off York in their first league meeting since 1999.
Jack Marriott bagged a brace for Luton as they beat 10-man AFC Wimbledon 2-0, but the match between Mansfield and Plymouth ended goalless. Oxford and Morecambe was also a stalemate, with Kemar Roofe missing a penalty for the U's.
