Fabricio Coloccini has won an appeal against his sending-off during Newcastle's derby defeat at Sunderland.
The Newcastle captain was given a straight red card for barging over Steven Fletcher in the box as the pair chased a through ball early in Sunderland's 3-0 win.
An appeal was lodged with the Football Association, and an independent panel has now ruled referee Bobby Madley made "an obvious error in dismissing [Coloccini] for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity."
Coloccini will not now serve a one-match suspension, but the reaction of the Argentine and his team-mates on the day has landed his club in trouble.
The FA has charged Newcastle with failing to control their players, and they have until 6pm on Friday to respond.
