Geoff Shreeves is joined by Andy Hinchcliffe to discuss Newcastle's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at St James' Park

Aston Villa's second half performance against Newcastle on Saturday Night Football was "incredible", Andy Hinchcliffe told Geoff Shreeves.

Newcastle's Fabricio Coloccini netted his first goal of the season to open the scoring at a rain-sodden St James' Park, before Jordan Ayew's superb equaliser in the second half ensured Villa would leave with a point.

The result means bottom-of-the-table Villa are now on seven points, and co-commentator Hinchcliffe believes the visitors must take confidence from their second half performance.

"It was like chalk and cheese, it was incredible. I think Jordan Ayew really summed it up - he was like a different player in the second half," Hinchcliffe said.

"They were proactive, they made things happen in the first 10-15 minutes of the second half and took the game to Newcastle. We didn't see that in the first half and they turned it around.

"It was a wonderful goal - a deserved goal - for a player that really came strong on in the second half. I don't know what Remi Garde said at half time but they came out firing.

"They picked up a point, but it's the application in the second half and the manner in which they approached it. It's whether they can do that in the games to come. If they can, they might be able to pick up two or three wins that will give them a chance of staying up."
