The Vancouver Whitecaps and San Jose Earthquakes left with a point apiece after their 2-2 draw at BC Place.
The Earthquakes were looking to build on their 3-1 win over Minnesota United on Saturday - only their second win of the season - but found themselves down 1-0 when Cristian Techera slotted a shot past Andrew Tarbell after 19 minutes.
Danny Hoesen scored in first-half injury time, flicking a shot over Brian Rowe then Nick Lima gave the Earthquakes the lead after 53 minutes.
Yordy Reyna got his head on the end of a probing cross to draw things level after 64 minutes, and neither side were able to push on and take all three points.
