Bristol Rovers have signed former Northampton striker Billy Bodin on a short-term deal following a successful trial with the Sky Bet League 2 club.

The 23-year-old, who began his playing career at Swindon, featured in the Pirates' 4-0 friendly defeat to West Brom at the Memorial Stadium on Friday.

After two years at Swindon, Bodin joined Torquay following a successful loan spell at Plainmoor where he went on to score six goals in 70 appearances before joining the Cobblers, the club he left at the end of last season.

The former Wales Under-21 international has been hampered by a number of injuries over the past 18 months but returned to action for Darrell Clarke's side during two weeks this pre-season.

Rovers boss Clarke told the club's official website: "He has signed this short-term deal with the club in order to prove himself.

"He is something a bit different to what we have here already and he gives us another attacking option."
