Brighton saw their lead in the Sky Bet Championship cut to three points after being held to a 0-0 draw by 10-man Wolves at Molineux.
The Seagulls maintained their unbeaten start to the season but they were unable to make the most of more than 40 minutes with a man advantage and saw Toner Hemed miss a penalty.
Hemed had the chance to open the scoring on 31 minutes but fired straight at Emiliano Martinez, with Wolves having midfielder Conor Coady sent off 10 minutes later.
But Albion struggled to make the most of their numerical advantage, Liam Rosenior firing into the side-netting and Martinez keeping out an effort from debutant Elvis Manu.
David Nugent gave Boro the lead inside two minutes at the City Ground but Forest were level five minutes later when Matt Mills volleyed home from a corner.
Aitor Karanka's side took the lead for the second time on 32 minutes but it was 'keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos who was Boro's hero with a fine penalty save from Henri Lansbury 13 minutes from time.
Rovers dominated their opponents for long spells but they needed until first-half injury-time to take the lead when Scotland international Rhodes turned in a Grant Hanley flick on.
Rhodes made it 2-0 with 15 minutes remaining after good work from Tom Lawrence, and it was the Leicester loanee who wrapped up the scoring on 85 with a powerful effort.
Steve Evans' side played for 50 minutes against 10 men, Cardiff having goalkeeper David Marshall sent off when giving away a penalty that was converted by loanee Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe.
Peter Whittingham levelled for the Bluebirds just before the interval and Rotherham created a host of chances before being handed three points when Connolly nudged a Chris Maguire cross past replacement goalie Simon Moore.
Charlie Austin scored his sixth goal of the season, heading home a Massimo Luongo corner to give QPR the lead in the 26th minute.
But their advantage was cancelled out seven minutes before half-time by a Michael Dawson header and Tjaronn Chery missed QPR's best chance of a winner when he somehow shot over the bar from close range early in the second half.
They were undone by two Reading goals in the first 13 minutes, and were furious that Nick Blackman's opener was allowed to stand - City's players felt the striker was offside.
Garath McCleary, who set up the opener, beat Frank Fielding from 30 yards to double the lead with City only mustering two efforts on target throughout the 90 minutes.
The MK Dons suffered their fourth successive loss as goals from Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor earned Leeds United a 2-1 win at stadium:mk.
Carl Baker brought down Taylor to give Wood the chance to open the scoring on 31, and it was Taylor who doubled Leeds' advantage two minutes before half-time.
Simon Church pulled a goal back on 58 but the Dons had Samir Carruthers sent off 13 minutes from time and eight added minutes were not enough for the 10 men to force an equaliser.
The Terriers went 1-0 down inside three minutes, Liam Feeney putting Bolton in front, but Huws levelled the scored just before the break with a 25-yarder.
He set up Mustapha Carayol to make it 2-1 on 53 and added a third goal 16 minutes from time, with Joel Lynch wrapping up victory on 83 minutes. Bolton also had Derik Osede sent off just before the final whistle.
Ross Wallace set up all three headed goals, Forestieri opening the scoring on 13 only for Jamie O'Hara to level the scores just after the half-hour.
Lees' downward header made it 2-1 and Turner headed in off the bar five minutes after the break, but the Owls were forced to cling on for three points after Tom Cairney pulled a goal back 23 minutes from time for the visitors.
Preston scored the quickest goal of the day when Daniel Johnson pounced on a rebound to open the scoring after only 16 seconds.
They held the lead until the 62nd minute when Lasse Vibe levelled from close range, and Marco Djuricin scored what turned out to be the winner three minutes later after good work from Jake Bidwell.
