Charlie Nicholas' World Cup Qualifier predictions: Wales host Austria and Rep of Ireland go to Georgia
Saturday 2 September 2017 21:09, UK
Scotland legend Charlie Nicholas provides his predictions for the penultimate round of World Cup Qualifiers.
After getting two results out of three correct on Friday, Saturday sees Republic of Ireland visit to Georgia and Wales host Austria with everything to play in Group D.
Here's what Charlie is predicting...
Malta 0-4 England - CHARLIE PREDICTED: 0-5
Lithuania 0-3 Scotland - CHARLIE PREDICTED: 1-1
San Marino 0-3 Northern Ireland - CHARLIE PREDICTED: 0-2
Georgia v Republic of Ireland (Saturday, live on Sky Sports Football from 4.30pm)
This is a tough one. I keep seeing Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane together and I'm starting to think Keane is in charge with O'Neill as his assistant!
They are very good at grinding out these games, but rarely win impressively as they are reliant on Shane Long and Jon Walters as they try to find another Robbie Keane.
You have to go to into matches like this and match your opponents physically. James McClean optimises how they get results, putting in that hard work and having that little bit of extra quality.
CHARLIE PREDICTS: 0-1 (4/1 with Sky Bet)
Wales v Austria (Saturday, live on Sky Sports Football from 7.15pm)
This is another awkward game and Wales need the first goal here because they're under a bit of pressure and are struggling to break teams down.
People are having a go at Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey but they do pick up the baton when they play for their country.
Sam Vokes has a few goals for Burnley as well so it's not looking so bad for them, I can see them grinding this one out.
