We're approaching the business end of the World Cup as the quarter-finals get underway on Friday - and Charlie Nicholas is back with his predictions.

With hosts Russia up against the impressive Croatia, the Soccer Saturday pundit has offered his views on how things will unfold.

He's got a surprise result for England in their last-eight tie with Sweden on Saturday too - read on to find out why.

Sweden v England (Saturday, 3pm)

England have more quality, there's absolutely no doubt about that, but I've not been caught up with the fluency of their play. It took them a long time to get going after suffering the disappointment of having to go to extra-time against Colombia, which is another issue.

I see this going all the way again and I can actually see England having to come from behind just to get to extra-time as they'll have heavy legs. I went for England to reach the quarter-finals before the tournament starts and I'm sticking to that prediction.

CHARLIE PREDICTS: 1-1 (5/1 with Sky Bet) and Sweden to win on penalties (10/1 with Sky Bet)

Croatia v Russia (Saturday, 7pm)

Russia are hanging in there. It was a remarkable result against Spain. Did they deserve it? No, but it is amazing what momentum can do and it will give them real belief here.

Croatia were such a disappointment against Denmark. They have far more quality but I can see them having to be patient. There's only so far that graft can get you and I can see Rakitic, who has been the player of the tournament so far, dragging them through.
