Patrick Vieira says the qualities of Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho will help him as New York City FC's new head coach.
The former Arsenal and France midfielder was appointed in November at the high-profile MLS club and is preparing for the new campaign in the United States.
Having played under Wenger (Gunners) and Roberto Mancini (Manchester City), and seen close-up how ex-Chelsea boss Mourinho (Inter) and Manuel Pellegrini (City) operate as coaches, Vieira has revealed he will draw on all their influences.
At his unveiling in New York on Wednesday, the 39-year-old, whose last role was head coach of the Elite Development Squad at Manchester City, said: "I've been very lucky playing under managers and spending time with them and learning from them.
"It's important though to be myself and not copy anybody else because that will be the biggest mistake to make.
"Something I like about Mourinho is his preparation before a game. He was giving players key information about the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition.
"I like Wenger with the freedoms he was giving to players to express themselves on the field.
"I like Mancini's passion and desire he was showing on the bench. At the same time, I like Pellegrini - the calm he was showing on the bench."
New York, who boast the talents of former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and David Villa, play three pre-season friendlies before kicking off their MLS campaign on March 6 at Chicago Fire.
Vieira retired from playing at Manchester City in May 2011 having also had spells with Arsenal (1996-2005), Juventus (2005/06) and Inter Milan (2006-10) and City (2010/11).
He also captained the French national team and was part of their World Cup-winning side in 1998. His domestic honours include three English Premier League crowns, five FA Cups and three Serie A titles.
Vieira has gained extensive experience developing youth talent, helping to steer Manchester City's Elite Development Squad to a Premier League International Cup.
