Former Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard pulled off a fantastic penalty save for new club Colorado Rapids in the MLS against Real Salt Lake

Tim Howard only left Everton to join MLS side Colorado Rapids in July, and already he's making headlines across the pond after making a fantastic penalty save.

The former Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper is settling nicely into life back in his home country, and has now pulled off a truly memorable save.

Colorado lost the Rocky Mountain Cup derby match 2-1 to Real Salt Lake on Friday evening, and were already down by that scoreline in the 82nd minute, the time of the penalty, due to a Yura Movsisyan brace.

Movsisyan could have had a hat-trick but missed two penalties. The first was in the 57th minute which he struck wide, then RSL earned another spot-kick in the final 10 minutes, as Juan Manuel "Burrito" Martinez was brought down by defender Eric Miller.

The penalty was a much better strike, this time from Javier Morales, but Howard was there to make the remarkable save.

"Without Timmy this game would have been really turned on its head," Colorado head coach Pablo Mastroeni said after the match.

"Fantastic performance from his part to keep us in the game."
