Didier Drogba was met by a standing ovation as he made his debut for Montreal Impact, coming on as a 60th minute substitute.

Didier Drogba's Montreal Impact debut ended in defeat as Sebastian Le Toux secured a 1-0 victory for Philadelphia Union at Stade Saputo.

With the game still goalless heading into the final 30 minutes, former Chelsea striker Drogba was introduced from the bench to a rapturous reception from a sell-out crowd.

But it would be another French-speaking player who broke the deadlock, with Le Toux turning Eric Ayuk's shot home at the far post in the 78th minute.

The 1-0 triumph sees Philadelphia pull four points clear of Eastern Conference basement boys Chicago Fire, who went down by the same scoreline at home to Colorado Rapids thanks to a first-minute goal from Dillon Serna.

Former Reading and Wolves forward Kevin Doyle sparked the move that sent Gabriel Torres down the wing and Serna was well-placed to tap in the cross.

At the other end of the table, leaders DC United suffered a second straight defeat, this time a 2-0 loss courtesy of the San Jose Earthquakes.

Chris Wondolowski needed only four minutes to notch the opener, the Californian hitman capitalising on a sloppy save from Andrew Dykstra. The Quakes doubled their lead in the 51st minute with Shea Salinas producing a classy finish on the turn to bamboozle Dykstra.

Jack McInerney's first-ever goal for Columbus Crew decided a 3-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City at the MAPFRE Stadium.

It was the visitors who struck first, Marcel de Jong scoring from Saad Abdul-Salaam's assist in the 14th minute. Ethan Finlay equalised 10 minutes before the break and it remained level until Graham Zusi restored Sporting's lead on 62 minutes.

Tony Tchani ensured the last 10 minutes would be exciting with a leveller from Tyson Wahl's assist, leaving new signing McInerney to seal the deal.

Orlando had two players sent off as they crashed to a 5-0 defeat to Toronto, with all five goals coming after half-time.

Elsewhere, a solitary strike from Cristian Techera boosted the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 1-0 win against Dallas FC and Real Salt Lake needed a Javier Morales penalty and a Sebastian Jaime goal to get past the Seattle Sounders 2-0.
