Pep Guardiola is hopeful John Stones will recover from injury in time for the World Cup.

Pep Guardiola is hopeful John Stones will recover from injury in time to feature for England at this summer's World Cup in Russia.

Stones has not played for Manchester City since returning from international duty in March after he started both of England's friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy.

Guardiola is optimistic the 23-year-old could return from his abductor injury before the season's close, but with four games of City's campaign remaining Stones faces a race against time to regain fitness for the World Cup.

Man City 5-0 Swansea

"He's injured. He has a problem in the abductors and is not playing with the team," said Guardiola, after his side's 5-0 win over Swansea.

"It's getting better," he added when asked if Stones will play again this season. "So hopefully he can play the last games and can reach the World Cup."
