Roche spoke to Sky Sports News HQ from his home in Lancaster on Wednesday and reflected on his goalscoring heroics for the Shrimps.

"It was an absolutely unbelievable feeling," he said. "We probably were a little bit unlucky not to equalise just before the goal, their 'keeper has pulled off a fantastic save.

"I knew it was going to be the last kick of the game so I thought I'd chance my arm and go up for the corner and luckily I managed to get a decent flick on for the ball in off the post."

Roche was mobbed by his team-mates after scoring and he revealed a couple of them had been a little too enthusiastic with their celebrations.

He added: "It was unbelievable scenes, the noise from the crowd, all the lads jumping on me. It hurt a little bit having 10 lads piled on top of me. A couple of them were throwing a few punches thinking it was funny, but it was all worth it. It was a very important point for us as well."

It was the first time the 33-year-old Irishman had scored in 493 appearances, although he has been up for corners before in the closing stages of games.

He said: "I've been up two or three times this season, but I usually ask permission from the manager, look over towards the bench and see if he gives me the nod.

"But thinking it was the last kick of the game, I didn't even look over. I sprinted up and just managed to lose my marker. It was a fantastic ball in from Shaun Miller and I didn't really have to do an awful lot except just put a little bit of direction on it."
