Genoa have completed the signing of World Cup-winning striker Alberto Gilardino from Serie A rivals Fiorentina. The 29-year-old has penned a four-and-a-half-year contract with his new employers and is believed to have cost around €8million (£6.7m). Gilardino has spent the last three years in Florence and his previous clubs include Parma and AC Milan. He is now set to take on a new challenge at Genoa, with the club looking to move into European reckoning over the second half of the season. Fiorentina have confirmed that an agreement involving Gilardino has been pushed through, with the Viola now expected to press ahead with their own search for attacking additions. A statement on the club's official website read: "Fiorentina announces that it has sold striker Alberto Gilardino to Genoa. "The company would like to thank Alberto for the time he has spent with us and the pleasure he gave the fans. The club wishes him every success for the rest of his career."
