Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has urged the Football Association to assess whether Rochdale's pitch is safe.

The teams are due to contest an FA Cup fifth-round tie on February 18 but Pochettino thinks it would be a "massive risk" to let the game go ahead if conditions do not improve.

Eyebrows were raised by the state of Rochdale's Crown Oil Arena pitch on Tuesday but their fourth-round replay against Millwall was allowed to take place.

The club's previous two home League One games have been postponed, while last weekend's Rochdale Hornets match against Batley Bulldogs in rugby league's Betfred Championship was called off.

Pochettino said: "I think the FA needs to assess the pitch and then to take a decision if it is good for the FA Cup, for the team and players to play on this type of pitch.

"Not because we are Tottenham - Rochdale I think too cannot play there.

"It is a massive risk for their players too. The FA needs to go in and take a good decision for football.
