Andre Gomes is confident Portugal will be able to cope with the threat from Gareth Bale and his Wales team-mates in Wednesday's Euro 2016 semi-final in Lyon.

Key defender Pepe is an injury concern after missing training on Monday with a thigh injury, but Gomes still believes Portugal can use their "weapons" to reach the final and keep Real Madrid star Bale at bay.

"I know Gareth Bale from the Spanish league," said Valencia midfielder Gomes. "I also played against British teams in the past, so I know their way to play, their style.

"They are very strong physically, they've got a very good team. We are preparing to face a very strong Wales team. They attack very well. I think they counter-attack very well as well.

"But we will use our weapons the best way we can to beat them on Wednesday."

Bale's Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo has largely failed to hit the heights in France, but Gomes has praised his contribution to the team.

"He has been working for the group and the group is the most important," he said.

However, he is confident he will be fit to face Wales at the Stade de Lyon.

"Physical problems are things we have no control over. I have tried to improve every day and now I am feeling better," said Gomes.

"I have already returned to training with my team-mates. Now I will try to improve until the next game to give my contribution, on or off the pitch."
