How does Louis van Gaal's Manchester United record compare to David Moyes'?
How does Louis van Gaal's Manchester United record compare to David Moyes'?

Victory over Liverpool saw Louis van Gaal bring up his 28th win in 51 games as Manchester United manager - one more than David Moyes managed in his 51 games at the helm.

If Van Gaal had not registered a victory against the club's arch-rivals, he would have been left with the identical win percentage to his predecessor from the same number of games.

The 51st game in charge, a 2-0 defeat at former club Everton, proved costly for Moyes' hopes of success as United elected to sack him with the club seventh in the table.

LVG v Moyes

  • Wins: 28 v 27
  • Draws: 12 v 9
  • Losses: 11 v 15
  • Win %: 54.90 v 52.94

Moyes' team actually scored more goals in his 51 games than the Van Gaal version - 86 to 84 - but conceded six more goals at the other end.

Each manager has had highs and lows in those 51 matches. Here we pick out some of the key games that have defined the two reigns…
