Liverpool 2016/17 season preview: Five questions

Jurgen Klopp has big plans for Liverpool in the 2016/17 season.

As we preview the new Premier League season, we pick out five questions for Liverpool.

What have they done in the transfer market?

Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum are the most expensive new arrivals at Anfield, and Liverpool also signed defenders Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip to strengthen their back-line. The Reds brought in German goalkeeper Loris Karius, too, but he is already sidelined after suffering a broken bone in his hand.

There have been notable outgoings, with Joe Allen moving to Stoke City, Jordan Ibe departing for Bournemouth and Martin Skrtel heading to Fenerbahce. Klopp has talked up team spirit over big name signings, but Liverpool supporters would be happy to see more new arrivals before the summer is out. Christian Benteke could join the departures list.

What does the manager say?

"This is my squad now. After all the transfers…this time it is my team. There are probably no players here anymore I don't want. There are no signings I didn't want, we have not sold anyone I didn't want to. And if you have seen them in training, there is a special quality that we did not have last year. Above all, you can see we have created a special atmosphere, not only in our team but with our fans."

What's the pundit verdict?

Also See:

"I think [Liverpool can finish] top four. I really like Sadio Mane, he adds something Liverpool didn't have from their attacking midfield which was pace and goals. Georginio Wijnaldum is a player I like. But Liverpool still need to sign a left-back. Going into the season with one recognised left-back and James Milner is not enough. But with no European football that added time on the training ground will be a major advantage." - Jamie Carragher

What's your prediction?

Liverpool are the 8/1 fifth favourites with Sky Bet to lift the Premier League title and they're 6/5 to finish among the top four. Daniel Sturridge is 20/1 to be the Premier League top goalscorer with Sadio Mane available at 40/1.
