Hull City 2016/17 season preview: Five questions

Curtis Davies and Hull City face a tough test in the Premier League in 2016/17

As we preview the new Premier League season, we pick out five questions for Hull.

What have they done in the transfer market?

Next to nothing yet. Key player Mohamed Diame has left for West Ham and Hull wouldn't even be able to fill their team-sheet with senior players just yet, with injuries exacerbating the problems caused by the uncertainty surrounding the club's ownership situation.

There is still time to address these issues but with Premier League champions Leicester the visitors at the weekend, caretaker boss Mike Phelan will be forced to call upon youth-team players. The big kick-off looks to be coming too soon for Hull.

What does the manager say?

Phelan, Steve Bruce's former assistant, told the Hull Daily Mail: "We had a few players in mind before Steve left. They've all now been taken elsewhere, signed up, so where we go from here will be discussed by people that run the football club. People are taking players on board, spending a lot of money and we need to reinforce. Whether that's possible, watch this space."

What's the pundit verdict?

"Hull have not had a good summer with Steve Bruce leaving. I thought Ryan Giggs might have got that job and that might have lifted them and made a difference. But they are one of the three teams I think will be relegated from the Premier League this season." - Paul Merson

What's your prediction?

Hull are the 1500/1 outsiders with Sky Bet to lift the Premier League title with relegation a far more likely outcome. The Tigers are 4/6 on to drop back down to the Championship and only 9/4 to finish bottom. Abel Hernandez is 100/1 to be the Premier League top scorer.
