Burton Albion fixtures: Sky Bet Championship 2016/17

Burton players celebrate promotion to the Sky Bet Championship

Burton Albion's first ever game at the second tier of English football will be away to Nottingham Forest on August 6 at the City Ground.

The Brewers, who gained promotion by finishing second in League One last season, will host their first game a week later at the Pirelli Stadium against Bristol City before facing Sheffield Wednesday at home on August 16.

Nigel Clough will look forward to hosting former club Derby County before the opening month is out - on August 27 - with the return fixture at the iPro Stadium on January 28.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is in line to return to Burton on September 27 when his Queens Park Rangers side travel to Staffordshire.

Wednesday's Championship fixture announcement also shows Albion travel to Aston Villa on Boxing Day with a trip to Rotherham United on the final day of the season.

Four of Burton's last six games of the season will be at home, including the final fixture of the season against Reading on May 7.
