Montpellier have accepted Rolland Courbis' resignation and will reveal his successor on Sunday.
The 62-year-old returned to Montpellier for a second spell as head coach in 2013 and, after steering them away from relegation from Ligue 1, secured a seventh-placed finish at the end of the 2014/15 season.
But recent results have been poor as Montpellier did not win a league game until late September and, after a brief resurgence, slipped back into a rut and occupy 15th place heading into the winter break.
Courbis has now opted to step aside, with a statement published on the club's official website confirming presidents Louis and Laurent Nicollin had "taken note and would announce who will succeed him as head coach on December 27."
