Mexico and Olympiakos striker Alan Pulido has been rescued after being kidnapped, according to authorities in his homeland.
The 25-year-old was taken at gunpoint on Sunday near his home town of Ciudad Victoria in the state of Tamaulipas having attended a party with his girlfriend.
His girlfriend was also reportedly taken by the masked men, but was later released.
Pulido appeared outside state police offices on Monday with one of his hands bandaged alongside Tamaulipas governor Egidio Torre Cantu.
When reporters asked him how he was, Pulido replied: "Very well, thank God."
Torre Cantu added: "The most important thing is that he is here. He is with us."
A statement released on Monday by the Tamaulipas security coordination group confirmed that Pulido had been rescued shortly before midnight and involved state and federal police.
It also confirmed that Pulido, who was part of Mexico's 2014 World Cup squad, was being medically assessed.
Tamaulipas has a history of kidnappings and violence related to the ongoing battle for control between drug cartels and the Mexican government.
Pulido signed for Olympiakos from Levadiakos in 2015, scoring five times in eight appearances for the Greek giants.
