Liverpool's focus must be on Capital One Cup final, says Jamie Redknapp

Liverpool's priority should now be getting their injured players fit for the Capital One Cup final, says Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.

Jurgen Klopp's side take on Manchester City at Wembley on February 28 with the season's first piece of silverware up for grabs.

Before that showpiece event, the ninth-placed Reds travel to bottom-of-the-table Aston Villa on Super Sunday, and then take on Augsburg over two legs in the UEFA Europa League round of 32.

However, Redknapp - who played for the club between 1991 and 2002 - believes Klopp's focus should be on trying to win the League Cup.

"Obviously he wants to win a trophy, the Capital One Cup is a big game for the club and the manager because there have been some real positives, some great moments this year," he told Sky Sports News HQ.

It is about getting those players fit for the cup final now, which is obviously really important.

"They won away at Manchester City in the Premier League with a fantastic performance, won away at Southampton in the Capital One Cup.

"But there have also been some really disappointing results, namely at Watford when they really struggled. So it is hard to find some solutions to how they are going at Liverpool."

Redknapp thinks that with some of Liverpool's most important players now slowly returning from injury, especially striker Daniel Sturridge and playmaker Philippe Coutinho, things are starting to look up at Anfield.

"They played ever so well against West Ham in the FA Cup, they were a little bit unlucky, a lot of the younger players did themselves a lot of good," he said.

"But just that final moment, the big moments when you want a goalscorer… obviously Sturridge coming back is important for the club [as is] Coutinho coming back.

"So I do think Liverpool could have a good end to the season and I think it is about getting those players fit for the cup final now, which is obviously really important."
