Newport County sack Terry Butcher after poor start

Newport County have sacked manager Terry Butcher after picking up just one win in 10 league games in charge.

The club released a statement on their official website saying Butcher has left with immediate effect following Tuesday's defeat against Crawley Town.

The former England captain was announced as County manager in April 2015, succeeding Jimmy Dack, who had held the position since the departure of Justin Edinburgh.

After a poor start to the season, the League Two club find themselves bottom of the league and Butcher's assistant Russell Osman and chief scout Steve Marsella have also left Rodney Parade.

A statement released on the club's official website said: "It has been a difficult start to the season with the team only managing one win out of 10 league games, and as a result we find ourselves bottom of the league.

"In addition to Terry's departure, Russell Osman (assistant manager) and Steve Marsella (chief scout) have also left the club.
