Partick Thistle have announced former player Gerry Britton as their new chief executive.

The former striker played at Firhill Stadium during two spell between 1992-1994 and 2001 and 2005, as well as being co-manager for two seasons from 2003.

Britton returned to the club five years ago to take the role of director at the Thistle Weir Academy.

He replaces Ian Maxwell, who left the role to take over as Scottish FA chief executive.

Thistle were relegated via the playoffs and will play in the Scottish Championship next season, but the club confirmed last week that manager Alan Archibald will remain in charge.

Britton said: "Having been a player, coach, assistant manager, manager and Academy Director at the club, Partick Thistle means a huge amount to me and has played a massive part in my life.

"To say I am happy to be taking over as the new Chief Executive is an understatement. I have always been proud to be part of this club and, even at this testing time, there is nowhere else I would rather be than Firhill.
