WATCH: Graeme Souness slams Theo Walcott over Chelsea's opening goal
Sunday 5 February 2017 00:09, UK
Watch Graeme Souness criticise Arsenal's Theo Walcott for Chelsea's opening goal scored by Marcos Alonso.
After an even opening period to Saturday's Premier League game at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea took control when Alonso gave them the lead on 13 minutes.
The goal came after Victor Moses released Pedro down the right, with the Spaniard swinging in an inviting cross that Diego Costa thumped against the bar, before Alonso, who was supposed to be marked by Walcott, beat Hector Bellerin to the rebound to head home his fourth league goal of the season.
Alonso's challenge on Bellerin left the Arsenal man dazed after being caught by the Chelsea full-back's elbow and he had to be replaced.
"Games at the highest level are decided by a piece of brilliance or someone not doing their jobs," Souness said, who also thought Alonso's challenge on Bellerin was a fair one.
"Theo Walcott saw the danger but decided to do nothing about it. The game from that moment swung completely in Chelsea's favour."
