Manchester United star Antonio Valencia endured a torrid evening as Ecuador crashed out of the Copa America in a fiery 2-1 quarter-final defeat against the United States.

Valencia was already walking a tightrope having been booked seven minutes before the break for a foul on John Brooks.

But he picked up a second yellow card early in the second half for needlessly tripping Alejandro Bedoya right in front of the dugouts.

That challenge sparked a melee which saw Jermaine Jones dismissed after appearing to strike Michael Arroyo as both sides were reduced to 10 men.

Goals from Clint Dempsey and Gyasi Zardes ensured Arroyo's strike was a mere consolation for Ecuador, whose coach Gustavo Quinteros was also sent off for comments made to the fourth official.

Next up for the United States is a semi-final date on Tuesday with either Argentina or Venezuala, but they will be without Jones, Bedoya and Bobby Wood who are all suspended.
