David Prutton's midweek EFL predictions

Prutton's Predictions

David Prutton returns with his predictions ahead of the midweek Sky Bet EFL matches...

But who is our resident expert tipping for victory? Read on to find out...

Preston v Aston Villa, Wednesday 7.45pm - Live on Sky Sports Football

Preston looked right up there a few weeks ago but have started to tail off a bit. They always fancy their chances at home against the big sides though, especially on a cold midweek night, and Alex Neil and Co will be right up for this one.

Aston Villa could have won the Second City derby on Sunday with the chances they had late on, but it was a tough game and this will be another tough one for them. Score draw for me.

Prutton predicts: 1-1 with Albert Adomah to score first (35/1 with Sky Bet)

Fulham v Bristol City, Tuesday 7.45pm

What a run of form Bristol City are on at the moment! They may have suffered that defeat against Leeds but bounced back superbly with another couple of big wins on the spin.

Fulham are a strange one this season. Every time you think they're about to build up a head of steam they suffer another poor result that takes them back to square one. But Craven Cottage is still a tough place to go and I can't split these two right now.

Hull v Middlesbrough, Tuesday 7.45pm

Middlesbrough finally got a vital win at the weekend to ease a bit of the pressure on Garry Monk. It's still early days for him but with the players they have and the money they spent.

Hull are the top scorers in the league but it's their defence that's costing them at the moment, which was perfectly reflected by their 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. But I think Boro will have too much for them and nick the win.

Leeds v Derby, Tuesday 7.45pm

A few weeks ago this would have been a nailed on home win but I'm not so sure now. Leeds have lost their last two games at home now and seem to have lost a bit of their early-season swagger.

Derby are on the edge of the play-offs after a good run of form, which proves in this league that all it takes is a few wins or defeats to change things completely. But I think this will be a draw.

Prutton predicts: 1-1 (9/2 with Sky Bet)

Norwich v Wolves, Tuesday 7.45pm

Norwich's good run came to an end at the weekend but they were a bit unfortunate with their scheduling last week and looked a bit tired against Derby.

And it doesn't get any easier for them as they look to host a Wolves side who will be desperate to bounce back from their defeat against QPR, and I think they'll do that at Carrow Road.

QPR v Sheffield United, Tuesday 7.45pm

What a way to end a poor run! Not many would have tipped QPR to beat Wolves on Saturday but they did and they were fully deserving of the three points as well.

Their reward for that is a game against another of the form divisions in the Championship. Sheffield United's rise has been remarkable so far, but Chris Wilder won't let his players get carried away. This, however, could be their first draw of the season.

Prutton predicts: 2-2 (12/1 with Sky Bet)

Sheffield Wednesday v Millwall, Tuesday 7.45pm

Is time running out for Carlos Carvalhal? They're behind Millwall in the table going into this game and they need to start chalking up some wins as soon as possible.

This just has to be a victory for Sheffield Wednesday for me against a side who are yet to win on the road. Millwall will never be easy to beat, but I feel this will be a narrow home win.

Prutton predicts: 2-1 (15/2 with Sky Bet)

Sunderland v Bolton, Tuesday 7.45pm

23rd hosts 24th in the Sky Bet Championship and you feel like it's a must-win game for both. Simon Grayson seemed a shrewd appointment for Sunderland at the start of the season but it just hasn't gone right for him so far.

He'll need time but if results continue to go the way they are then it's unlikely he'll get much more of it, and it's a little unfortunate for them that they're meeting Bolton at a time when they've actually started picking up a few results. I fancy the Trotters to heap more misery on the Black Cats.

Prutton predicts: 0-1 (11/1 with Sky Bet)
