Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller says he can't wait to get down to work with a great club as new Livingston manager.

Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller has been named as the new player-manager at newly-promoted Livingston.

It is Miller's first management position and he will oversee a side who are returning to the Scottish top flight after a 12-year absence.

Livingston beat Partick Thistle 3-1 on aggregate in the play-off final. Manager David Hopkin then left after guiding the club to back-to-back promotions, having rejected the offer of a new contract.

Director John Ward told the club website: "We're happy we've finally landed Kenny. We've been speaking since Monday, and it's not helped that his agent has been in Colombia with the time difference causing some issues.

"But it's a leap of faith for Kenny coming into management, and a leap of faith for the club too, but we're thrilled to have him here now and he'll be a big influence on the park as well as in the backroom."

Miller left Ibrox when his own contract expired at the end of the season in what was his third spell at the Glasgow club.

He first joined Rangers in 2001 before leaving for Wolves one year later. Miller returned in 2008 and stayed for three years scoring 49 goals in 81 appearances.

The 38-year-old returned in 2014 scoring 34 goals in 111 appearances and despite his contract ending, he had expressed his desire to continue his career.

Miller also won 69 caps for Scotland between from 2001 to 2013, scoring 18 international goals.

Livingston will face the current Premiership champions Celtic on the first game of the season on August 4.
