Newly-promoted Norwich will be looking to get their Premier League return off to a strong start as they face Crystal Palace to kick off their 2015/16 campaign.

Both clubs have invested heavily in the summer. Norwich have added six players to their squad including Robbie Brady, Youssef Mulumbu and Andre Wisdom on loan from Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace has spent heavily in their attack. Yohan Cabaye from Paris Saint-Germain for £13m, striker Connor Wickham and Patrick Bamford on loan from Chelsea are just three of their seven signings made so far.

Crystal Palace has never beaten Norwich in the Premier League (D4 L4), the last meeting finishing 1-1 at Selhurst Park on New Year’s Day 2014.

Team news

Norwich will head into the game without summer signing Mulumbu after the midfielder had an operation on a fractured metatarsal.

Full-back Martin Olsson continues to recover from shoulder surgery following the Sky Bet Championship play-off final victory at Wembley, while forward Kyle Lafferty (knee) is also out. New signings Andre Wisdom and Robbie Brady could both be included in the squad.

Cameron Jerome is expected to start after struggling with an ankle injury as Robbie Brady is expected to make his Premier League debut.

Merson’s prediction

Norwich did well last year, keeping their players and returning to the Premier League at the first attempt, and fair play to them for doing that. I like Palace, they are a decent side, particularly away from home where they are a major threat. This is a tough game for Norwich because their fans will be expecting them to come out and attack Palace and that will play into the visitors’ plans.

If Norwich do that, Palace will just pick them off for fun. Their pace on the counter attack will be too much for Norwich unless they change their tactics and try and play a counter-attacking game themselves. I just don’t think the fans will allow them to do that.
