Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey grabbed a late equaliser for his 10-man team to rescue a share of the points in a 2-2 MLS draw with the Portland Timbers at Providence Park on Sunday.
Joevin Jones had boosted the Sounders ahead by following up his own saved shot in the 27th minute, but Portland hit back to draw level through Fanendo Adi's penalty on the stroke of half-time.
Brad Evans was sent off for conceding the spot-kick, giving Dairon Asprilla some extra room to fire the Timbers ahead. Seattle endured 45 minutes of struggle before Dempsey notched at the death.
The result saw Seattle stay in eighth place in the Western Conference on 21 points, just five points clear of Colorado Rapids at the bottom, while Portland moved up to third, five points off leaders Sporting Kansas City.
Next up for Portland is a trip to Kansas, which is live on Sky Sports 1 next Sunday at midnight.
