Real Madrid v Osasuna preview: Zinedine Zidane blasts transfer ban
Sunday 11 September 2016 10:00, UK
Zinedine Zidane is furious with the FIFA sanction handed to Real Madrid ahead of his side's clash with Osasuna on Saturday.
On Thursday, Real and city rivals Atletico Madrid had their appeals against the one-year transfer bans for breaching rules governing the transfer and registration of players aged under 18 rejected by FIFA.
These transfers have included the sons of the Real head coach and the ban has overshadowed preparations for a match in which the hosts will look to continue their 100 per cent start, following victories over Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo.
Speaking at Friday's pre-match press conference, the Frenchman said: "I don't understand the punishment, my children were born here, have lived here all their lives and it is absurd that they can't play football.
"I'm annoyed that it's happened and I hope it can be fixed quickly. I'm very happy with the squad, they're happy here, and if we have to be two or three years with this team, no problem."
Zidane also announced that talisman Cristiano Ronaldo should return to action following the knee injury he picked up during Portugal's European Championship final win over France. Striker Karim Benzema could also play some part after recovering from a hip injury.
Marcelo, Casemiro and James Rodriguez will all be rested for the match at the Bernabeu following their international exertions in South America, while first-choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas is set to miss out due to an Achilles injury.
Zidane insists that the La Liga title is the club's main priority.
"We want to win everything but the league is the most important competition, because there are 38 games and you have to win almost every game," he said.
"Last year we lost by one point despite winning 12 straight games at the end."
Osasuna head into the match on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Real Sociedad but head coach Martin insists his side will battle throughout their encounter with the Champions League winners.
He told the club's official website: "We know who we are up against. Real Madrid are a team with fearsome quality. It is clear that we will face one of the best teams in the world.
"We want to win. The more we have the ball, they have less of it. When we do not have it, try to disrupt them as much as possible within the rules.
"We will compete from the beginning to the end."
