Rangers v Motherwell preview: Gers seek boost ahead of Old Firm clash
Wednesday 27 December 2017 07:27, UK
Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson is positive the battling draw with Dundee will prove a turning point ahead of their trip to Rangers on Boxing Day.
The 1-1 draw at Fir Park ended a run of four consecutive Scottish Premiership defeats and was achieved in challenging circumstances.
Robinson's side finished the game with 10 men after both Chris Cadden and Elliott Frear went off with hamstring injuries, the latter after all three substitutes had been used.
Defender Peter Hartley and goalkeeper Trevor Carson both played through the pain barrier in the closing stages and the latter secured a point deep in stoppage time when he produced a brilliant one-handed stop to deny Josh Meekings.
Robinson said: "We are positive that has turned the tide. It's easy to get into the habit of losing games, as it is getting into the habit of winning games. We need to get back to that.
"We have stopped the rot and we know what we need to do in both boxes. You need to defend properly like we did and we need to take our chances at the other end."
Graeme Murty's first match as full-time Rangers boss ended in defeat as they were beaten 2-1 by Kilmarnock.
"It's not the way I wanted to celebrate a new contract," said defender Declan John, who struck Gers' opener just before half-time.
"Wednesday's game is now a must-win for us ahead of the Celtic game, we must bounce back. We will have to put in a good performance at home and obviously we've then got the big game against Celtic."
Rangers travel to leaders Celtic on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.
